Congratulations to Our 2025 Parkside Dems Scholarship Winner: Briona Morris!

The Parkside Democratic Committee is proud to announce the recipient of our 2025 Parkside Dems Scholarship—Briona Morris, a standout graduate of Sun Valley High School.

Briona represents the very best of our community: leadership, integrity, and a bold commitment to justice. This fall, she will be attending Temple University, where she plans to continue making “good trouble” in the spirit of the late Congressman John Lewis—a theme that was the heart of her inspiring scholarship essay.

Briona’s winning entry reflected on how a single moment—the murder of George Floyd—sparked a lifetime commitment to justice. She wrote about creating her first documentary on racial injustice with the support of her teacher, Mr. Nelson, and how that experience empowered her to use her voice for change. Whether addressing environmental racism, gun violence, or civic advocacy, Briona has proven that standing up and speaking out can move hearts and minds.

In recognition of her achievements and future promise, Parkside Dems awarded Briona a $500 scholarship to support her educational journey. We were honored to present the check in person and celebrate a young leader already making waves.

Briona, we’re incredibly proud of you—and we know this is just the beginning. Your dedication to equity and courage in the face of injustice inspire us all.
